A true Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor exited the stage of life on Wednesday, 23, 2011. Born on Feburary 27, 1932 in
England (of American parents), Elizabeth Rosmond Taylor made her film debut at the age of 9, being cast in a Universal movie
titled, There's One Born Every Minute and her career contiuned from there.
She became a Hollywood movie star by the
age of 12, a bride and a divorcee at 18, a screen goddess at 19 and a widow at 26. She appeared in more than 50 films,
and won Oscars for her performances in "Butterfield 8" (1960) and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?"
(1966), where she met English actor, Richard Burton, whom she loved so much she married not just once, but twice!
Elizabeth
Taylor was also part of an unrecoverable moment in time known as the, Hollywood Golden Era.
Here is a memorable
moment on, What's My Line? The show being black & white, doesn't show an Elizabeth Taylor oddity among Hollywood types,
natural violet colored eyes.
Among some of her noted love affairs was with jewelry, which
she wrote a book about titled, Elizabeth Taylor: My Love Affair With Jewelry. I haven't read the book, but I wonder if she mentions' Richard Burton giving her a "rock" that weighed in at 33
carats!
Among her many causes, she also among the first Hollywood types to support AIDS research.
Her work gained her a special Oscar, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, in 1993. As she accepted it, she told a worldwide
television audience: "I call upon you to draw from the depths of your being — to prove that we are a human race,
to prove that our love outweighs our need to hate, that our compassion is more compelling than our need to blame.".
Comedian Gilbert Gottfried cooked his golden goose with some flaming jokes about the March, 2011 Japanese earthquake. The
suits at AFLAC quacked when Gottfried Tweeted, "What do the Japanese have in common with Howard Stern? They are both
radio active!"
Gottfried also squawked , "Japan called me" saying, "maybe those jokes are a big
hit in the U.S., but over here they are sinking!".
AFLAC, that does about 75% of it's business in Japan, got it's
feathers ruffled by Gilbert's humor and fired the 11 year voice of it's webbed-footed mascot. The insurance company will now
be looking for a new spokesperson for the lame duck.
Hello, my name is Groucho Sparx and I'm a retired Hollywood type that has now gone into, "Fanning the flame of Hollywood
shame." What better way to introduce myself than to show you the latest Hollywood meltdown, Charlie Sheen.
I love
this guy. Charlie has done many great movies. I especially liked, Taps, a movie he did with his real life father, Martin Sheen.
Except in this movie, it's his dad that has the meltdown. Well, "like father, like son".
Here we go... from
Sheen's Korner:
March 24, 2011 Update
There seems
to be something strange happening in Sheen's Korner. The original video "has been removed by user". This current
video now showing here was uploaded March 23, 2011, and seems to be the exact same video. I think this shows some strategy
from Sheen's Korner to marketody the new Sheen, OR, somebody in his korner does not know how to edit the YouTube titles without
reloading the entire video?
It is also to note that the media attention that Charlie had generated
was washed away by the tsunami that hit Japan after an earthquake.
Hello, my name is Groucho Sparx and I'm "fanning the flame of Hollywood shame!" ...shame on
